  3. Electro-Deionization: Electro-deionization (EDI) is a continuous process that uses an electric field to remove ions from the water, producing a high-purity, deionized water.   4. UV Sterilization: The final stage in the purified water system involves sterilization using ultraviolet (UV) light. The UV light destroys microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, and molds, ensuring the water is free of harmful contaminants.

The purified water system should be designed and installed to meet the specific requirements of the pharmaceutical manufacturing or DM plant. The system should also be validated and regularly maintained to ensure it produces consistent high-quality water that meets the required standards.

  1. Water Source: The source of water for a purified water system should be potable water, which means it meets drinking water standards. The water may be supplied from a municipal water supply or a well.
  2. Pre-Treatment: The water must be pre-treated to remove any impurities that can affect the quality of the final product. This pre-treatment process may include a series of filtration systems, such as multimedia filters, activated carbon filters, and microfiltration.
  3. Reverse Osmosis: The next step in the process is reverse osmosis, which removes dissolved minerals and salts from the water. This step may also include the use of an ultrafiltration system to remove any suspended solids.
  4. Electrodeionization: The water is then passed through an electrodeionization (EDI) system, which uses ion exchange membranes to remove any remaining ions from the water.
  5. UV Disinfection: The final step in the process is UV disinfection, which ensures that the water is free from any harmful microorganisms.
  6. Storage and Distribution: The purified water is then stored in a stainless steel tank and distributed throughout the facility using a piping system made of high-quality materials, such as stainless steel.
